Q7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task?
Hello, here is my answer to question 7.
From my preliminary task to now the main thing that I have
learnt is that you need your group's help for the whole duration of the task
because it is a lot harder trying to do a lot by yourself than working with
your group as a team. However this is not the only thing that I have learnt
from the preliminary task to now.
Another thing that I have learnt from the preliminary task to
the main task is that you can make a good film providing you think the whole
production through. In my opinion the most important and crucial stage of
production is the pre-planning production because it can either help you create
a masterpiece or a disaster depending on how you do in this stage. With the set
genre type of film you have to create makes it a little easier but you still
have to make a film from scratch and it has to start from the pre-production stage
or it can't be done easily at all.
A third thing that I have learnt during this time is that I
know what the hardware equipment is called and what each one does and how to
use it or set it up. This allows me to teach others as well as knowing how to
do it myself means I can get on with certain things and spend less time
wondering how to set up the shoulder mount for example.
In my preliminary task I feel as though the quality of the
film was good however we left our filming a little too late and close to the
deadline but luckily one of our group is a common user of the editing software
Premier Pro and managed to get it done. This time for our main task we did our
filming at a much earlier time than before which enabled us to give more time
to the pre and post production so we could make adjustments to our film to make
it better than before.
I also felt as though this time round the group was more
organised due to the way everything was done, the outfits were fixed and
everyone knew what was happening and when. This helps in terms of the happiness
of the group because it lowers the frustration of the individuals in the group
and any kind of disruption or falling out.
In our main task I felt as though it was more of a team
effort than in the preliminary task because everyone contributed in a different
way and jobs were shared out equally and everyone got to do a bit of something.
For example everyone did a bit of editing to help create the film therefore
each group member should feel as though they have done their bit in the film.
Although I feel like some of the shots used in the main task
film were not as good as some of the shots in the preliminary task, this may
have been because it was difficult at the time to get a good shot, or the scene
may have not been appropriate for some specific shots. In the future we will
look back on this and think of how we could improve the film itself. However
the film went well and I think we was successful in the production of 'SHORTCUT'.
My blogs have also improved in depth and detailed description. As well as the understanding of the platforms, as you can see teh photo is unavailable to view, previously I would not know how to fix this problem, but now I know how to do this and would be able to solve the issue. It would be a simple case of saving the photo onto my computer then import the photo from the blogger. Clearly showing some of my improvements from the preliminary task up to the main task.

Q3: What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?
Here is my answer to question 3 for my evaluation, containing numerous
ideas and thoughts as to why I chose specific media institutions who may
or may not distribute my media film product. Enjoy!
Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Q1: In what
ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
Here is my blog on conventions of a thriller; within the
research that I did I looked at some previous AS media students work and
observed what they put, I then researched a few definitions related to
conventions of a thriller. This helped me to understand the genres and sub
genres and allowed me to put this into practice on my main task – horror
thriller opening ‘SHORTCUT’. We as a group thought that some thrillers took
place in a very natural environment and so we used our nearby surroundings like
the location we chose to our advantage to create the setting and scene of our
film.

- Conventions of a thriller.
This had an impact on my final film because it allowed me
and my group to assess the background to our film and see whether it made sense
and had a realistic feel to it. Therefore the pre-production stage was massive
in terms of the creation of the film and together our ideas were put as one and
we progressed to the production stage.
This is a screenshot
of our film on the Tupton Hall Media YouTube channel. This is the official film
release on the internet, whenever you are free please don’t hesitate on viewing
our film. As you can see it is nearly two and a half minutes long, within a
good time zone where it keeps the audience attached without losing any of their
attention.
My film is based on a schizophrenic teenager called Max and
takes a shortcut home where he comes across something rather unusual, but what
is it? In our film we like to keep our audience guessing therefore have the sub
genre of mystery.
This is the
storyboard for our film, it contains the different varying scenes during our
film, this is also my blog which contains more information on this final film
as well as my preliminary and other set tasks. Link to my storyboard -
